There is a tried and true method of getting to the front-page of HN, which is to take whatever implementation choice you've made today and make broad, completely unsupported claims that it is universally applicable as a law of the universe. This applies to a shockingly high number of non-news submissions, regardless of a lack of rigor to the claims.


I'm guessing this is because everyone's looking for the magic bullet, or a set of rules they can blindly follow in order to be successful.

Obviously, the real secret to success is to use judgement, but that doesn't make for catchy headlines.


HN headline: "The only way to make the HN front page is to make incorrect generalizations."


The week after: "Headlines that use the words 'every' or 'always' are always wrong."


Oh, snap! If I'd have known that I would have blogged like this about every pull request we've gotten! :)
