That's flippant but in all seriousness, it stems from a narccistic inability to focus on results after selecting employees who can be trusted to work on their own without leaking corporate secrets -- I trained a generation of journalists to go abroad, and it astounds me how reckless many people who known damn well the consequences of things like not using MFA are.
At one point I remember someone on NPR's Up First giggling she still doesn't use MFA -- I remember a time when if you said that on the radio, someone would immediately log into your email and send you one from yourself advising you to improve your opsec... but that would be illegal.
