Is it? The car dealership near where I grew up had a 100 foot tall pole with a Canadian flag at least 10 feet wide, probably more. And that's a car dealership... Flags were everywhere: gyms, offices, banks, schools, etc... Can't say I toured any factories to specifically know if they were there, but I'm guessing yes.
Of course now it's different, the flag is less common, to the point in my home province (Alberta) you see more Albertan flags than Canadian ones...
So we Americans love our kickass flag…so what? It wasn’t until relatively recent times that it became intertwined with whatever the fuck our current president stands for (for the next 12 seconds).
I’ve had a US flag up on my house for the past 15 years. This country has been good to the son of European immigrants. It’s far from perfect but I love my country. Meanwhile my European cousins, aunts and uncles are scraping by.

Neither did CVS. That was one of the big sellers of Subversion (maybe even the seller)
CVS in essence was just remote access to RCS files, where each file was handled independently, which caused lots of trouble to recover a specific state of work, especially when including deleted (or even worse: replaced) files.
Indeed. I can't count how often I told people that segmentation faults are among the best kind of errors. One has the complete state and not a log message missing 90% of relevant info.
Of course you don't want processes to crash all the time and spend time on writing gigabytes of data onto disk. But for the rare failure it's a good thing to have.
One thing I wonder regarding browser market share is always: How is it collected?
I assume Firefox users over proportionally use privacy extensions.Thus they overproportionally won't appear on Google Analytics and similar places, which for some statistics reduces the numbers even more than reality.
Most common methodologies were already garbage even a few years ago, with general consensus being that Firefox was probably undercounted by at least 30%; and in more technical arenas, it can be a lot higher, perhaps up to 80%. (Unfortunately, that’s still probably not a lot.)
Even back then, Chrome was commonly being significantly overcounted due to user-agent string shenanigans. And these days I’m confident (without any figures, or even relevant recent commercial experience) that will have increased sharply. I expect that it is now massively overcounted, at the same time as Firefox is significantly undercounted.
Statcounter is particularly commonly used, and honestly one of the worst. Its mobile figures, for example, are completely useless because they don’t report browser versions. CanIUse figures (which lean heavily but not solely on Statcounter) are lousy and unrealistic due to some of these sorts of issues, and just generally being out of date. (I examined the matter closely on 2023-05-27 and the figures corresponded with being about six weeks behind.)
Software availability isn't really the problem. For most software there was no change at all ("connect to that host" or "listen to any device" and operating system will handle details), most software which needed adaption had it for a while (picking up a devices explicitly, handling of IPv6 addressees, ...) while maybe not equally good (missing GUI improvements for better handling of IPV6 addresses)
The problems, as I observe, are more in network infrastructure, routing, etc.
This also works much better in the vast slabs of the world where roads don't have names, or if they do, they're signposted badly if at all. (India, Japan, most of Africa, etc.)
There are so many companies these days doing recording for self driving cars and/or street view like applications. Also sites like Flickr collect huge sets of geo tagged photos, as do companies like Meta where tons of geo tagged images are shared each day via their different outlets.
Niantic has the benefit that they can steer "volunteers" to specific points, though.
Maybe Niantic intentionally steered players towards remote locations only reachable on foot, understanding that this data is more scarce and therefore more valuable?
