This would be much better than existing mobile data infrastructure for consumers.

It's too bad people have had a hard time getting these, they look really cool and I love the project's idea. Really looking forward to getting one myself.

The Model B is widely available now, at least in the US. Check Newark's RPi product page [1], and click on "Check more stock". The next ship date is Feb. 11th. Not, that's not next day, but every time you buy one of these, the RPi foundation can make more of them, making future availability even better.

MCM has been shipping out RasPis next-day for a few months now: http://www.mcmelectronics.com/content/en-US/raspberry-pi

You can get them on Amazon these days, although you'll be hard pressed to find the $35 price.

I liked it for that reason. Given, I'm also moving from Boston to SF this year, so it's particularly applicable to me.

There was a lot of experimental psychology research in the last fifteen years or so in this field. It generally concluded that exposure increased some measured antisocial behaviors and decreased some prosocial behaviors, but whether that translates into actual aggression against others is unclear.

A longitudinal study following about 1500 children for three years was recently published that claims "sustained violent video game play was significantly related to steeper increases in adolescents' trajectory of aggressive behavior over time."[1] Again, whether this translates into real world violence is unclear.
