If anyone has an alternative I’m all ears.

This would be a killer feature for me and something I’ve tried to use on cross-country road trips.

I know it's not the perfect solution for you, but I use a voice recorder and send the LLM the transcript. And my god is it working great.

Usually I just explain the things I want it to do. The longest was 30 minutes rambling of explaining the methods section of a paper in non chronological order. It worked unbelievable good for me.

If you're setting this up yourself instead of using a lab's built-it speech functionality, you can run a small LLM in parallel, on a local model or small model like Haiku, that acts as a gate for either doing TTS on the response or not. Its only job is to decide if the transcription it receives is of someone being done talking or if that person is likely to still be mid-thought or mid-sentence.

Once the dispute was resolved on the card side did anthropic claw back the $100? Was your account penalized in anyway?

That's the thing, right? I would not be surprised if they have an agent that bans accounts that do chargebacks on them even when they're wrong. So you either accept it if you have to use it for work or you risk and deal with the possible consequences.

If a merchant tries to claw back a disputed charge they are going to get a big fee at the least.

Nothing so far, but I'm keeping an eye on it and debating just canceling entirely.

Yeah that was the most out of touch HN comment I’ve seen in a long, long time.

Persistent irrelevant celebrities are a real thing, but those two wouldn’t crack the top 500.

I mean Kim & Selena will always have a certain level of celebrity status but people like Sydney Sweeney are currently a lot more popular. This is in terms of "are they the most popular people right now" as their instagram count states. They are literally in the top 10 on instagram right now.

i think you're talking about trending vs popular.

The signals are working as intended. More people will know Kim K than Sweeney because Kim K is more popular and has had more time to be more popular.

why am i talking about kim k on hn lol

Everything I learned about the Kardashians has been learned against my will.

haha yeah it makes her so obviously more popular and thus her follower count more "accurate". The parent's point is just hard to hold.

Pretty sure she founded or runs skims? She's Armenian, daughter of a famous lawyer in LA. Kanye. Sex tape. Early with the reality tv. I too did not seek out any of this knowledge!

Most just be a generational thing. Sweeney is still baking. She's actress from euphoria of which i didn't watch. That's about as much as i know. and the jeans ad controversy.

The signals aren't really working though. It's why algorithms are required, because people want relevance instead of popularity.

Having fading connections equates relevance with popularity.

I mean… Danny Bonaduce and David Caruso are still celebrities. Not being in the top trending list doesn’t mean they’re irrelevant to culture.

I’m frustrated that Signal isn’t notifying users about this.

I disabled notifications and instead Signal reminded me to re-enable them…

The issue is only an issue if your phone is physically taken, then unlocked and the message notifications extracted from a iOS cache database. Todays update by Apple fixes issue for every app, not just Signal.

Maybe for "motorcycles" like Aptera.

Large car manufactures will lobby to avoid competition of barebones, cheap cars.

most motorcycles are low tech outside of adv and $$ cruisers. they still make kick started carb'd 2 strokes. the 4 strokes are almost all EFI with electric start now (the Suzuki drz just added FI last year, lol. I think the bike has otherwise been unchanged since the 90s?). plenty of older carbeurated machines still exist. even the electric motos (especially those coming out of china) are low tech. just a battery, bms, controller and motor pretty much, with a minimal display.

Danielle Smith knows how to trample curiosity.

It’s wild, but unsurprising to me. Coke, “noots”, and psilocybins were big a decade ago and the same argument could be made about their provenance and origin.

I was close to a name brand pre-workout company and the FDA would play whack-a-mole with their formulas and they were on store shelves in every US city.

Yes, our stretched thin controllers watching the feed from a satellite field makes total sense.

Maybe they could try a pilot program somewhere like LGA?

Situational awareness is situational awareness. We still do in AK, but we used to have good Flight Service Stations that could provide advisory workload permitting.

AI tooling to provide traffic advisories when there are critical staffing shortages would be a godsend in some parts, and they don't necessarily need to even remotely be close to provide some help.

Obviously, that's not going to work at Teterhole or LGA, but the air traffic system is more than just the east coast. There's tons of staffing shortages across the whole country.

My first thought is, "we should hire more controllers and pay them better" - but if we're not going to do that or if we can't recruit and train fast enough (we can't really), some automation would be good.

Excellent!

I've signed up and look forward to following your success.

Your mission is near and dear to my heart- I grew up on an US Air Force base that is a PFAS superfund site and didn't find out about it until much later in life. Recently I've jumped into research linking PFAS contamination in dog food to canine Addison's disease.

We've been pretty cavalier with PFAS and it's horrifying.

Who is "normal" in this context? Because people who support the EFF's mission are pretty clued into what is happening and do care.
